Then, started shutting off when the volume was "too high" (not very high).Length of warranty: 2.00 years. Bought 11/30/2007. Worked great and sounded great until 12/2009 (2 years and one month). Actual life: 2.04 years. :( :( :(
Received only a warning to not touch anything when when things went dead. Be certain there is an ONKYO service center next door,
It is hard to find a product that will meet all your requirements. Only other feature I would liked to have had, would be smaller size surround speakers.
First, was to own a very good theater system for under $500. I was able to accompish two projects purchasing this unit.
Did not use, purchased a heavier gauge wire. The second, was to be able to eliminate the need for a second receiver which powered my home stereo system.
I took the advise from some in their past reviews regarding the speaker wires. No regrets with this purchase.
I can always buy the smaller speakers separately.
This receiver has all kinds input so I had no problem connecting the cable, PS3, and PS2 plus I could connect a few other game boxes if I wanted. The sound is remarkable. I bought this system for my home theater and I love it. I also planned to hook this system up to a PS3 for Blu-Ray playback. What I loved about this box is what you see of the images of the back. Yes, this leads to buying two extra optical audio cables and makes the setup a tiny bit harder, but I didn't find it to be all that much of a challenge and the result was well worth it.As a last note, Onkyo packages this well. Most HTiB systems come with a receiver that has built a built in DVD player.
High pitches are well produced and you can literally feel the bass. My media room already had four speakers (two front and two rear) flush mounted in the walls, but I wanted to buy a full Home Theater in a Box (HTiB) to get the other speakers for full surround. I'm often tempted to play the THX intro on movies over and over again just because it sounds so good across the whole range. I didn't want to get a wasted DVD that way. Also, those systems have very few input options. The self-configuring option is simple to do and works really well. Some people will note the minor drawback that the HDMI audio is only a pass through and you have to use other cables to connect the audio.
The UPS guy literally rolled the box up to my house and the Styrofoam packaging got crushed in some places, but it did its job and protected all the components which were in perfect shape.
Could be a lot better than it leads on. I'd buy a different kit next time.
